Vita: A Memoir

And the books of Well-Fed Artist Press

In 2019, tired of hearing a former president disparage immigrants, I wrote two blog posts, one about my maternal grandparents who came here from Ortona a Mare on the Adriatic coast of Italy, and the other of my paternal grandparents who came from the area of Naples. What happened next surprised me: I couldn't stop writing. So without really setting out to do so, I wrote a memoir. I called it Vita: Growing Up Italian, Coming Out, and Making a Life in Art.

Publilshed by Well-Fed Artist Press, Vita recounts my Italilan American Childhood in the Fifties, coming of age in the Sixties, coming out as gay in the Serventies, and my ongoing life as an artist. The volume, available in hard copy and as a PDF volume, han be purchased here.

"Reading Mattera’s memoir was a personal pleasure and a professional revelation."
