Published in 2016 by Well-Fed Artist Press, this 54-page volume marks 10 years of my involvement with one series. While my studio practices embraces a range of reductive color fields and geometric abstraction in a variety of mediums, Silk Road, the series, now numbers over 350 small and mid-size paintings in encaustic. The second edition of this soft-bound book is viewable at no cost or to order for $18.

Joanne Mattera: Silk Road, 2015
I think of the grid as the perfect conversational grouping for the12 x 12-inch Silk Roads. Each painting holds a conversation between field and edge, and together on a wall there's a visual discussion--sometimes raucous, sometimes serene. The palette for this grouping made for a visually quiet conversation
While sparking a conversation with the field in each painting, the limned edge also encourages your eye to leap from painting to painting so that you participate visually in the conversation
